Sakuraji invites serious zen students to come to Creston for up to three months at a time for residential practice. Sakuraji is a small country temple with two residence rooms. Creston is a rural town located in Creston Valley, a farming area where the main produce is cherries and other fruits. Residents stay in the zendo bedrooms, eat in the main house with Kuya and Rita, attend as many sittings, classes and retreats as possible, help with zendo and household chores, garden planting, weeding, watering & harvesting. When there is not enough work at Sakuraji, residents participate in Creston community life by volunteering in community organizations such as the Therapeutic Activity Program for Seniors, (dishwashing and serving lunches) the Food Share Program and Spectrum Farms, (growing and distributing produce) and at Gleaners, our local recyling program.
There is no charge for lodging but food costs will be calculated and divided up among Kuya, her partner, Rita and any residents.
