Sakura-ji is a lay practice centre where anyone who wants to explore Zen training or Zen Writing Practice can do so. We have a regular weekly schedule, weekend and week long retreats, residential retreats and opportunities for individual retreats. Our Mission goes beyond formal Zen training in that we also host Yoga Classes and Qigong classes. All teachers and professionals associated with Sakura-ji share a mission to offer services and courses that enhance the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being of Kootenay residents.

Resident Priest Leave of Absence
Kuya is taking a leave of absence from being resident priest at Sakuraji to attend to some encroaching health issues. She is staying at Yasodhara Ashram for three months in the Yoga Development Program. While she is gone, the students at Sakuraji are keeping the practice going.

This is a devotional practice that includes silent meditation, singing traditional devotional songs from the Hindu and Buddhist tradition, readings and contemplations. The idea is to bring the Creston Yoga Community together once a month for yoga, a vegetarian meal and satsang, a simple and beautiful devotional practice.

There will a spring Practice Period Starting on April 26 at Sakuraji in 2018. Participation in the training term involves commitment to a regular sitting schedule, attendance at the Tuesday class, and attendance at one weekend and one weeklong retreat. Modified retreat participation is possible for local students who work at jobs.

Spring 2018 Training Term

Sakuraji's training term gives serious Zen students an opportunity to sustain sustained committment to a reasonable schedule of Zen practice. Students commit to sitting once daily for five days a week, to attending one weekend retreat and one weeklong retreat and to studying a Zen text chosen by the Training Term leader - in this case, Kuya Minogue. For the Fall 2017 Practice Period we will be studying The Lotus Sutra, a basic teaching in the Mahayana Zen tradition.
This can be a residential retreat. At Sakuraji we have room for 2 residential students, but most students live and work in the Creston community and develop training term guidelines that suit their work and family demands. It is also possible to join this training term as an online distance student.
